Retail dumpster guide

Sporting Goods Stores

Bike and equipment cartons, foam and returns. Some of it is light and some of it, like weights, is not.

Sporting goods stores get a lot of oversized packaging. Bikes, treadmills and kayaks come in long cartons with foam inside, and they leave the same way they came in.

Returns add the heavy side. A rack of metal weights or a broken weight bench can push a dumpster past its weight limit while the box still looks half empty. Those are best kept in a smaller box or handled on their own.

Seasonal changeovers, like camping to ski or swim to fall sports, also leave a lot of fixture and display waste at once.

Questions people ask

Can old treadmills and weights go in the dumpster?

Usually yes, but weight adds up fast. Metal weights and benches are heavy, so use a smaller box and ask us about disposal.

What size dumpster suits a sporting goods store?

A 20 or 30 yard handles most stores. A 40 yard makes sense for a remodel or a big seasonal changeover.

What sporting goods items are not allowed?

Propane tanks, camp fuel, ammunition, fireworks, flares and batteries are not allowed. Call if you are unsure about an item.

Can a full box be swapped during a changeover?

Yes. Call or text when it is full and we will swap it for an empty one.
