Why Now

Why Contractors Book Before the Rain

  1. 1

    The wet season is close

Most of San Jose's rain falls November through March. Book before the first big storm.

  2. 2

    Wet debris weighs more

Tonnage is billed by weight, and rain soaks into an open load. Clear it while it's dry.

What We Haul

Roofing tear-offs

Shingles and underlayment from reroofs. Heavy, so we size the box by weight.

Yard and landscape waste

Branches, green waste and sod from fall cleanups.

Concrete and dirt

Specialty boxes for concrete, brick and dirt. Dirt and concrete are priced separately, so call us.

A reroof, a kitchen or bath remodel, or a yard cleanup.

Capacityup to 8 loads

30-yard

Bigger remodels and small demo jobs.

Capacityup to 12 loads

40-yard

12 to 16 pickup loads

Full demos, new construction and large cleanouts.

Pro tip

Tarp the bin at the end of each day and any time rain is in the forecast. Stormwater rules expect it, and a dry load weighs less.

Good to Know

What We Can't Take

No hazardous waste: paint, chemicals, batteries, propane tanks, tires or anything with asbestos. Demo and roofing jobs often turn up old paint cans, solvents and treated materials. Ask us before they go in the box.

Common Questions

Rainy Season Dumpster Questions

When is the rainy season in San Jose?

The National Weather Service puts San Jose's wet season at November through March, and about 82% of the year's rain falls in those months. Book your dumpster before the first big storms so the job isn't waiting on a delivery.

Do I need to cover my dumpster when it rains?

Usually, yes. California's construction stormwater permit calls for waste containers to be covered at the end of each workday and during rain, and the Santa Clara Valley stormwater program says to cover dumpsters with a roof, tarp or plastic sheeting. Check your site's plan for the rules on your job.

Does rain make my dumpster cost more?

It can. Tonnage is billed by weight, and rain that soaks into an open load adds weight. Tarp the bin at the end of each day and before rain to keep the load dry.

Can you drop a dumpster on a muddy site?

Tell us about the ground when you book. Soft, wet dirt is hard on a roll-off truck, so we'll pick a firm spot with you, like a driveway, a paved pad or the street.

Do I need a permit to put a dumpster on the street in San Jose?

The City says a container that stays on the street for 72 hours or more needs an encroachment permit from Public Works, and a tow-away permit may be needed to hold the space. Setting the bin on the driveway or the job site avoids the street permit.

What size construction dumpster do I need?

Most construction jobs use a 20, 30 or 40 yard. Roofing and concrete are heavy, so size those by weight. Tell us what's coming out, or text us a photo, and we'll recommend one.

Can you swap the dumpster when it's full?

Yes. Call or text (408) 825-4838 when it's full and we'll swap it for an empty one.

How do I get a price?

Call or fill out the form on this page. We quote the haul rate and the per-ton rate before anything is booked. Dirt and concrete are priced separately, so call us for those.
